Snowbound, need a tree-top, please help? Have muslin, hangers, paint, extra ball-ornaments, etc.?

Do you have any ideas? Do you have a pattern for a simple muslin angel- I have fine golden wool for hair, and gold ribbon for trim? We have company coming (local) but the stores are about an hour away, so it’s risky to take the car out on the mountain…
This is nothing to cancel plans over, still, the tree topper is the real crescendo to a lovely night.
Ps, Tree is being done up in a semi natural theme, with typcial gold balls, ornaments covered with “berries” and “leaves”, aplles, pears, and icicles. So, something everyday would fit in.

I think you are on the right track–I would cover a ball with the muslin for her head, secure with ribbon and then let the muslin flow down for her dress–similar to how you would make a ghost for Halloween, and then decorate her with a simple face, put hair on her, trim her dress.

lights go out as my angel dies. would anyone like to light them again?

Hi, i have for sale a whole shed full of christmas lights. we used to light our home for charity and raise money for the cancer charities as my teenage daughter was battling cancer. My angel died sadly and i havent been able to put the lights up again and it seems such a waste. i am having a memorial garden built in the back garden to remember her by and i want to put the money towards this. anyone intereted please ring me on 08701995443 many thanks. there are masses of them! also nativity scenes, inflateables and many others. indoor and outdoor! too many to list!i would like in the region of 600 for them, there are hundreds and some have never ever been out the box. we have a big three bed house and an amazing display and always in the papers. complete setup for someone.

Really glad that there are people like you in the world but sorry can’t afford it.
Sorry for your loss, hope you find a buyer and perhaps you could give a few of the decorations to a local hospital and sell the rest.

        Keeping cats off of my Christmas tree?

        Last year was the first Christmas that I had cats…2 of them. One is a climber and got all the way to the top of the tree and knocked the angel off. I lost more ornaments last year than ever.

        Can I get any ideas for keeping the cats off the tree?

        Courage! I love the SSSCAT Spray!!! I wonder if I can get it at my local pet store! If not, that is a MUST BUY online!

        First, get non-breakable ornaments so that if they do knock it over, no big deal.

        Second, there are aversives that aren’t cruel you can set up around the tree. I’m going to give a list of them that might work.

        Third, make sure the cats have something to climb on that is easier, and encourage them to climb up on it by putting treats at the top. It should be at least as tall as the tree since they seem to like the tree’s height.

        Fourth… you could always make the cats fatter. :P Joking. But really, as cats age they’re less likely to climb, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen as much this year.

        So, my list.

        1) Cat soft-claws. This makes it so that it’s harder to climb because their claws are covered by a rubber sheath. (link 1)
        2) SSS-cat spray. This lovely little thing sends a burst of air that hisses and scares a lot of cats away. It’s set off by a motion sensor. (link 2)
        3) Scram-mats. This makes a noise if they step on it. (link 3)
        4) A little alarm thing. This sets off a noise if it’s moved, maybe you could put it on a lower branch or something? (link 4)
        5) A little electric mat that shocks the cat. Same idea as 3 but a bit more… shocking? Ugh, bad pun. (link 5)

        Other ideas though. Since a cat usually has to run and then climb, then perhaps put a baby gate or something similar around the tree to interrupt their run? Possibly you could put something like double-sided carpet tape (they sell a version for pets that’s safer than that) around the tree so that if they run, they get one of those on them, and that might discourage them.

        If you have the alternative tree for them to climb and treats up there, it all may work. Note, if you do get them an alternative tree, since they seem to like the natural branch, don’t waste money on an expensive cat-tree but try to find something that uses real bark and isn’t as expensive. You might even be able to make your own. I would probably try covering it with rope more than carpet.

        I hope some of this gives you ideas and may help.

        Add: This isn’t forever either. After the cats get the idea of leaving the tree alone, then you can put the more expensive ornaments up again. :) It’s just while you’re training. There are beautiful non-breakable ornaments out there though.
