What’s the difference between Mr. Rogers and my dead neighbour? My dead neighbour isn’t burning in hell.

My kids are going to grow up watching DVDs of Mr Roger’s neighborhood, sesame street, Arthur… basically all PBS programing and nothing else.

Fred Rogers & Jim Henson……..THE two icons in influencing children. The world was richer from having them in it.

c0deMunkey: most countries have either public broadcast television or hybrid public/commercial models. We have a fully commercial–mass media model–that makes us the weirdos. It also makes us stupid. Do you know what concentrated markets are? It’s what the commercial model depends on–more viewers on fewer channels equals very expensive commercial real-estate. to get this, you have to dumb down programming–make people complacent and settle for their 2nd or 3rd best choice of what to watch.

@krille898 it’s the way he talks. You’re used to the way people speak today. Watch some earlier TV.

I love the way he talks so clearly. If you turn on the captions, you see that they’re almost spot on. That has never happened with any youtube video ever.

I want to be this man

@windowsforvista not exactly, some of the captions, especially when he speaks a little faster…

@BEASLAND000 Most of the time the captions can’t get a whole sentence, so that’s pretty good.

Thanks to the Los Angeles Times, the public learned that city manager Robert Rizzo was making nearly $800,000, or twice that of the president of the United States, while his deputy was paid $376,000. Police Chief Randy Adams was pulling in $457,000, 50 percent more than Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck. Since the exposé last week, they’ve all resigned.

Whenever I feel untethered, I watch this. This man, Fred Rogers, he provided such an example. In his programming, for children, and in this video, an amazing selfless template for adults. Thank you, Mr. Rogers.
